Intel x BMW Hololens Experience
Intel x BMW Hololens Experience
To show off the partnership for autonomous driving between Intel and BMW, I created the first ever large scale Hololens installation. This was the first time Hololens had ever been used in a large scale, in such a crowded/animated setting.
The experience was deployed at CES 2017 (Las Vegas), Mobile World Congress 2017 (Barcelona), Intel 360 (San Diego), Embedded World, CBIT, and a few more large conferences around the world. I traveled and help run each of the experience at each of the conferences. The experience was always the star of the show and had the entire crowd of the convention gathered around.
The experience produced a 49% lift in brand awareness for Intels Automated Driving offering.

Shaq had some high praise :)
The experience involved 35 Hololens headsets and displayed a world of 5g connectivity around and inside a BMW i8.
Users at any of these conventions would put on the headset and see the virtual city, cars, and data being transmitted between them all. Going inside the BMW i8 would reveal an AR dashboard of information.
A series of transparent OLED TVs were placed in columns around the BMW and offered animations and peeks into the world of autonomous driving.
I used image recognition, on a custom license plate on the car, to align the set into place. This way, we could interact with the geometry of the physical world (other parts of the exhibit booth), as well as we would line up all the interactions with the car. If a headset had lost calibration (from being turned upside down/too much movement etc) it could be easily recalibrated using the image target.
Below is a tour of the experience through one of the headsets.
